Outline of Japan Customs Brokers Association(JCBA)

JCBA is non-profit organization, which was established in 1994 in accordance with the Civil Law, and main members of JCBA are nine Regional Customs Brokers Associations consisting of totally more than 1,300 licensed customs brokers in Japan. JCBA aims at contributing to the development of international trade by promoting following activities;

  • make inquiries and researches into development of customs brokers, customs clearance procedures, electronic data exchanges , and so on.
  • propose customs brokers' roles, improvement of customs clearance procedures and others to government and related bodies
  • participate in conference of International Federation of Customs Association (IFCBA) and others
  • conduct seminars and training programs on customs matters for customs brokers, registered customs specialists, and others
  • support personal importers in their customs clearance procedures
  • provide traders with their customs clearance information on exports and imports
  • corporate to prevent the smuggling of antisocial goods including illegal drugs, and so on based on the MOU with the government
  • corporate to the program on global supply chain security and trade facilitation

What do Customs Brokers do?

Customs brokers will make declaration to Japanese Customs on imported or exported goods at the requests of importers or exporters. Every customs broker has a license (permission) of Director-General of Customs. Almost of the declarations are handled by customs brokers. So as to do this business properly and promptly, the Registered Customs Specialists in customs brokers'office, who have passed national examination and is confirmed by Customs, will expertise their professional knowledge to review each declaration and related documents before the declaration would be made. Through these customs brokerage business, customs brokers would contribute to trade facilitation, correct account of duties and taxes, and securing global supply chain.
